Name ideas for new website

We need to change the domain name of our current blog for grandparents ASAP. We NEED your input.

A large part of our content is focusing now on helping grandparents learn about cool technologies they can use to connect with their grandchildren. We live in a marvelous age of technology. But sometimes it can be intimidating: the internet, email new websites, inventions, cool tools, state-of-the-art, newfangled gadgets, and other technology. That’s why we are creating a new and improved website and blog. We will offer free information and tutorials that show grandparents exactly how to use cool stuff. Grandparents are cool! We don’t want them to be left out while the grandkids are enjoying the 21st century.

We need ideas for a domain name that suggests this concept of grandparents and technology. Here are a few suggestions.

  • GrandSharing
  • GrandparentsTLC (TLC = Technology/Tech Savvy, Love/loving, Connect/Connection/Connecting)
  • GrandparentingTLC

  • CoolGandparents

Please enter your wild and creative ideas in a comment here. Thank you for participating in the Grandparent Project!

I was talking with another

I was talking with another grandparent that is actively participating in the Grandparent Project. She brought up the concern that having the word "technology" in the website's name could scare some grandparents away. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestions

@Grandma Henke: Thanks for the suggestions!

One of our readers just commented on our Grandparenting Blog: "It is vitally important that all grandparents learn to use the web and technology to stay close to their grandkids." How true!

I like TodaysGrandparent or

I like TodaysGrandparent or Grandsharing, I agree that the words tech might scare some away. . . but if that's who you're really targeting (only the ones that aren't afraid to get into technology) maybe techgrandparents would be okay.

idea

MyGrandparentSpace.com  Implies the association with myspace which is a teen/networking site. But also implies a community where you will interact with your grandparents.  Anyone somewhat online savvy will get the myspace connotation, and anyone who doesnt' know what it is will not be scared by a too techy name.

I can see a lot of potential with this project ... I can imagine walking a total newby through the process of setting up different online services with video tutorials.  Forums set up to help them with questions/problems.  Etc.  What a fun project.

My grandma is very online savvy but I'm afraid she spends most of her energy forwarding useless emails that I have already seen before.  hehe.  I wish she would spend that time hopping on facebook to view pics of my kids!

gap (as in closing the gap)

I like two of them

I like two of them:
ConnectedGrandparents
Grandparenting TLC (I think you should add this to the top of the website as a tagline) "TLC: Technology & Love make Connections"

domain name

GPS (Grand Parents are Simple: even a child can use one!)

I spent the afternoon with my

I spent the afternoon with my 16 year old grand daughter taking a tour of Israel and the Temple Mount Institute. She lives in Dallas and I live in Wills Point, about 60 miles away. We signed on to the site and hooked up with gtalk. It was fun! Every time she was ready to go to another section she would enter "c" for click..I would click and then answer her questions as the new pictures came up. We toured the Temple Mount together for about 2 hours. She said " Granma, find us another place to visit tomorrow after Church".  Lots of fun!

That GPS is cute!

Suggestion for domain name.

Thepowerofgrandparents.com       I feel we have such an incredible amount of love to give and influence where others can't.  We have such wonderful opportunities to touch our grandchildren and there's my two cents worth.

Good luck to you, you are doing such a great service.

What about...

IntouchGrandparents

or the other way round

GrandparentsIntouch

As technology does keep us in touch even when many miles away from Grandbabbies.

The Website

I like the MyGrandparentingSpace.com a lot. MyGPS.com...

That also fits in with the Ning.com suggestion I left you. By the way? Ning is free is you would like and you can add your own domain name and a few other importrant and handy features for a small fee monthly. It is a great site for family interaction.

Domain Name Ideas

Here's another way of looking at it:

GrandkidConnect

GrandkidSpace

GrandkidBook

MyGrandkids

I really like the Grandparenting TLC tagline. Others I like: ModernGrandparent, a shorter version of one mentioned above: GrandparentPower, GrandparentsInTouch, GrandSharing. I think the domain name should communicate connected or in touch more than technology. Technology is just the means to the desired end.

I like the jingle of the "gadget" names above, but think they would make a better name for a store site, not a blog.

There's a lot of great ideas here!  Good luck!

Thank you all for your ideas!

We have made a decision!  Drum roll please...

GrandparentsTLC.com with a tag line something like "TLC: Technology & Love help make Connections".

Several people felt like this was the name that felt right. It is a warm sounding name, easy to remember, and about as short as can be, having the keyword grandparent in the domain name.

We will get the new site up and running very quickly. We will start with the a blog for showing grandparents ideas to connect with their grandchildren, with a focus on cool technology.

So, once again, thanks for your input! Now, please help us pick out a tag line.
